Mah-Jong is a game for 3 or 4 players, a bit like Rummy using small tiles instead of cards. A set contains 4 lots of 3 different 'suits' (characters, bamboo and circles), numbered 1 to 9, and additional tiles (winds, dragons, flowers and seasons). The basic game consists of collecting groups of 3 or 4 tiles which are exactly the same (and runs of 3 or 4). It can become more interesting when you start to play 'Special Hands'. The game has scoring (very high scores can be achieved, NB no gambling here!) and some rituals take time to get one's head round but that is what makes it unique!
