Membership of Sawston Area u3a is open to anybody who is no longer in full-time employment. There are no age or other restrictions. All that is required is a wish to continue to learn. Our membership year begins in August.
NB To simplify our bookings, we have introduced Christmas and Easter breaks to be applied to all groups using booked venues. This year, Autumn term will run from 01 October to 18 December 2026, Spring Term will run from 04 January to 19 March 2027 and Summer Term will start 05 April 2027. No bookings will be made on the Bank Holidays 3, 31 May. Exact dates for each activity can be found on the Groups page.
Membership We have two types of Membership, Annual or Annual plus Outings. Please take a moment to visit the Theatre and Outings page and decide which type of membership you would like before you start the online enrolment process
Fees:
Annual Membership £30.
Annual plus Outings Membership £35.
If you are joining the Theatre and Outings Group, there is an extra charge of £5 to cover expenses.
(No discount is given for belonging to more than one u3a)
Fees: Join Jan 2027 or later, the fee for both types of Membership is reduced to £16 for the remainder of the membership year.
Gift Aid: Sawston Area u3a is a registered charity, no 1141150, benefitting from Gift Aid in the past year. We thank all members who completed the Gift Aid consent on their enrolment form and would ask that they do so again for the coming financial year.
If you are a new member, in the rare event that all the activities you have applied for are full, you will be contacted by our Membership Secretary. You will be offered the option to continue with the enrolment (hoping a member will withdraw from one of the activities) or have your membership fee returned.
Queries: If you have any problems or questions concerning Membership or Enrolment please contact our Membership Secretary
Withdrawing from Classes and Activities
If you find that a class is not what you expected, or you need to withdraw from a class for any other reason, please advise the Group Coordinator or Membership Secretary rather than just not attending as there may be a waiting list for the course. Group Coordinators have been asked to maintain a register of attendees and to contact members who have not attended a class for three consecutive sessions. If there is no good reason for non-attendance, they will be taken off the group list to allow new members to join
Cancellation of Classes
The committee reserves the right to cancel any class due to low enrolment and attendance or for any other reason.
Email addresses All members are asked to provide, where possible, an email address to receive an increasing amount of u3a information. The use of email addresses saves time and work for the administrators and cost to the u3a. We will send information by post, or hand deliver, to members without access to email but it is inevitable that they will receive information later than those members with email addresses.
If you do not use email regularly, please consider asking a friend or relative if you could enter their email address. Please be aware of the points below:
- Email addresses are only used to communicate to members within the Sawston Area u3a.
- Email addresses are never shared outside the organisation or with other u3a members.
- We use Bcc to avoid broadcasting your email address to other members. (Please ask a committee member if you need this to be clarified)
- Your details are stored on the u3a Beacon system and only used by the Committee and Group Coordinators.
u3a Matters
All members now receive a copy of the u3a Matters magazine four times each year, by direct mail. The committee will only supply members’ addresses to the u3a Head Office with no other details, subject to data protection legislation. The cost is met from the membership fee.
Insurance
Sawston Area u3a accepts no responsibility for accidents not covered by its Public Liability Insurance.
