Elementary Science & Technology - AES

Six topics: 

Each session will be around 60 minutes talk with slides, followed by a short break and 45 minutes of questions and/or open discussion.

  1. Chemistry - History, Creation of Periodic Table & Introduction to Chemical Bonds
  2. Physics - History, Atomic Structure & Nuclear Energy. How reactions are started & sustained.
  3. Forces & Motion - History, unravelling the topics through astronomy. How we create motion & electricity using the Electro-Magnetic force.
  4. Materials Science - Introduction, properties of various materials, and how structures are designed. Examples from the development of Aircraft.
  5. Energy & Power - Understanding utility bills, and keeping warm (and cool!) indoors.
  6. Climate Change - Fact or Fiction? And who gains?

There is no need for any prior scientific knowledge and there will no Mathematics involved.

This is a repeat of the course held in April/May 2026
